Talk: Elmer Dool – ‘In my father’s footsteps’
Spend a wonderful Saturday morning in the company of Mr. Elmer Dool in the Large Drawing Room.
Elmer, a respected horticulturist, will be giving a talk in honour of his father, Herman Dool. Herman Dool was Garden Director at Mount Congreve Gardens from the 1960s working alongside Ambrose Congreve to design and plant the gardens over forty years. The gardens feature mass plantings of many varieties, creating stunning, colourful vistas year-round. Elmer Dool is proud to continue his father's legacy by offering guests a chance to learn about the history of the gardens.
In recognition of his achievements to horticulture, Mr Herman Dool was honoured with the Orange Order of Nassau by the Queen of The Netherlands, which is the equivalent of a British Knighthood. Elmer is delighted to host this talk and to have the opportunity to walk in his father's footsteps.
The Large Drawing Room is inspired by Mr. Ambrose Congreve’s love of Asia. The large drawing room does not form part of the main visitor attraction, so why not take this opportunity to surround yourself with its renowned hand-painted Chinese wallpaper, while hearing this history of the gardens?
