Waterford Chamber Music Festival
The festival opens with a unique Musical Promenade through the gardens of Mount Congreve. Audiences will be guided through scenic locations, encountering solo performances interspersed with nature-inspired spoken word. A highlight of the event will be the world premiere of a newly commissioned work for solo French horn by composer Seán Ó Dálaigh.
The festival’s commitment to nurturing emerging talent is reflected in the Young Artists’ Recital, while audiences can deepen their engagement with the music through a pre-concert talk by Dr Sophie Lee.
Sunday’s programme opens with Sean-nós in a New Style, an innovative project by Irish composer and pianist Seán Morgan-Rooney. Drawing on his roots in traditional Irish music and classical training, Morgan-Rooney reimagines ten sean-nós songs as art songs for voice and piano. Performed with internationally acclaimed mezzo-soprano Lotte Betts-Dean, this promises to be a highlight of the festival.
Across three main concert programmes, audiences will experience performances by leading Irish and international chamber musicians. The repertoire ranges from the stirring masterworks of Brahms and Schumann to beloved works by J.S. Bach and Mozart, alongside lesser-known gems by Amy Beach, Bohuslav Martinů and many others.
The festival concludes with a vibrant celebration of wind chamber music, featuring Mozart’s Quintet for Piano and Winds alongside works by Florence Price, Paul Hindemith and Jean Françaix.
"Our 2026 programme celebrates the richness and diversity of chamber music, bringing together beloved masterworks, contemporary voices and exceptional performers in the unique setting of Mount Congreve. We are especially excited to present a new commission by Seán Ó Dálaigh and to continue creating opportunities for emerging artists alongside established international musicians." - Artistic Directors Billy O'Brien & Siobhán Doyle
