The Curious World of Ireland's Follies
An Evening with Robert O'Byrne BOOK TICKETS MAKE A DONATION 19th August Join acclaimed architectural historian, author and creator of The Irish Aesthete, Robert O'Byrne, for a fascinating illustrated talk exploring Ireland's remarkable follies. The evening will begin with a special 15-minute introduction by John Beattie, Architectural Conservation Advisor, who will speak about the importance of Ireland's historic designed landscapes and the work being undertaken to conserve and protect these unique heritage assets through the National Built Heritage Service. His presentation will provide the perfect introduction to an evening celebrating heritage, architecture and design. From sham castles and ornamental towers to hidden temples and romantic ruins, discover the extraordinary stories behind some of Ireland's most intriguing buildings, and learn how Mount Congreve's own Chinese Pagoda forms part of this rich architectural tradition. The talk takes place in Mount Congreve House's magnificent Drawing Room, home to its internationally significant eighteenth-century Chinese wallpaper—providing the perfect setting for an evening celebrating heritage, architecture and design.
