On Saturday, 11 April at 11:00am, Mount Congreve Gardens is delighted to welcome historian Julian Walton for a special illustrated lecture in the elegant Large Drawing Room.
Drawing on his meticulous research, The Congreves of Mount Congreve - informed by extensive meetings and correspondence with the late Ambrose Christian Congreve (1907–2011) - Julian will trace the remarkable story of the Congreve family across eight generations and nearly four centuries. From merchants and Members of Parliament to soldiers, scholars and horticultural visionaries, this sweeping narrative situates Mount Congreve within the broader political, social and cultural history of Ireland and Britain.
Set against the historic Chinese wallpaper and within the setting of the current Art of Dining: Life in the Big House exhibition, this promises to be a richly informed and atmospheric exploration of lineage, legacy and landscape. It will be an unmissable event for members, history enthusiasts and all who value the enduring story of Mount Congreve.
Price: €6 per person (€5 for members)
Location: Large Drawing Room, Mount Congreve House
